Kakinada, Feb 20th: East Godavari District Joint Collector, Mr. Kona Sasidhar said safety audit would be conducted on the fire safety and other disaster management systems installed in various industrial units in the district in coordination with Fire Services, Pollution Control and Department of Factories. Reviewing the fire safety situation with the district officials and also with the Atomic Energy Board in the wake of recent major fire accidents at Coromandel Fertilisers and Schlumberger Unit in the vicinity of the port here, he said stern action, including closure of the units, would be initiated if the safety measures taken up by the units were not up to the stipulated standards.

He said the atomic experts had certified that no radioactive elements were present open in and around the Schlumberger Unit and the containers having radioactive substances were intact during the fire mishap. Safety measures in cinema theaters and multi-storied buildings would also be subjected to safety audit, he added. He asked the Atomic Energy Board members to give training to the fire and safety officials to create awareness among them about the safety measures. District collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwivedi, Incharge DRO Rama Krishna and other took part in the meeting.
