Sabita Reddy becomes first HM of AP

Hyderabad, May 26th: Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S Raja Shekar Reddy’s adopted sister, Mrs. Sabita Indra Reddy was made the first home minister of Andhra Pradesh after Dr. Reddy allocated portfolios to his 35 ministers on Tuesday. Mrs. Sabita is the first women to hold this crucial portfolio. Dr. Reddy created a record by selecting six women to his cabinet. Sabita’s late husband P. Indra Reddy too was a home minister in the NT Rama Rao cabinet in 1994-95. Sabita was minister for mines and geology in the previous cabinet.

 

Mean while the ministers, Mr. K. Rosaiah, Mr. N. Raghuveera Reddy, Mr. D. Prasad Rao and Mr. Ponnala Lakshmaiah retained their old portfolios finance, agriculture, revenue and irrigation respectively. The other women ministers Mrs. Gita Reddy, Mrs. Galla Aruna Kumari, Mrs. Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Mrs. Konda Surekha and Mrs. D.K Aruna were assigned with Information and public relation and tourism, roads and building, minor irrigation, women and child welfare and small scale industries respectively.

 

Chief Minister kept the power department with him along with the cash rich excise and commercial taxes ministries. Dr. Reddy is likely to expand his cabinet in six months by inducting the PCC chief, Mr. D. Srinivas, Mr. K. Jana Reddy and Mr. J.C Diwakar Reddy whom he dropped from his cabinet. Sources said that Mr. Jana Reddy and Mr. Diwakar Reddy were kept on the sidelines to make them know that those who worked against the party will not be spared.
