Kakinada, Jan 10th: The implementation of the Rajiv Yuva Shakthi (RYS) program for providing self-employment to unemployed youth is going on at a snail's pace in East Godavari for the last couple of years. Lack of interest by bankers in providing funds for the scheme due to poor repayments by beneficiaries is said to be the main reason behind slow implementation. The employment and training program which is known as Setraj, later shifted its operations to Kakinada the district headquaters.
The selection of beneficiaries begins in June-July each year and the unit begin working from October-November. The units selected are provided with advances by the banks. In addition to this, the government provides subsidy. In the present 2009-10 year, 1,281 units were selected in the district. It is said that the The Setraj distributes the subsidy as per the eligibility of the beneficiaries. Though the year ended, nothing has been started. It is said that the bankers are not showing interest on the scheme, as repayments to the advances provided earlier were not to their expectations.
