RTC workers to go on strike

Hyderabad, Nov 18 : The National Mazdoor Union will go on an indefinite strike demanding wage revision for 93,000 regular employees of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) from April one, 2009 and regularisation of the services of 18,000 contract workers. The NMU State Executive Committee, at an emergency meeting here on Wednesday, unanimously resolved to serve a legal notice on the RTC management and the state government on November 27 and go on strike any day on or after December 11, NMU President M Nageswara Rao told news persons. Sixty three NMU functionaries from all over the state attended the meeting, he added.

Meanwhile, RTC Chairman M Satyanarayana Rao directed RTC Managing Director S S P Yadav to hold talks with union leaders to resolve all issues amicably. Conforming receipt of SMS from the MD's office inviting them for talks, Mr Rao hoped that the RTC management and the state Government would consider their ''genuine demands'' pending for over seven months.
