Kakinada, Feb 5th: Th Road Transport Authority (RTA) for East Godavari has reached nearly 80 per cent in generating the targeted revenue of Rs 110 crore for this financial year 2009-10 as on Friday. The RTA is generating the revenue through three prime channels including life tax payments, enforcement and seizure of vehicles. According to officials sources, the RTA earned nearly Rs 10 crore till Friday as against Rs 15 crore by the end of this financial year, by booking cases on more than 50,000 vehicles of various types under the enforcement.

Apart from this, the RTA seized nearly 3,000 vehicles, which were not paid the life taxes by its owners, till the end of January 2009. By this also the RTA can easily earn nearly Rs 1 crore in terms of penalty, the officials added. Speaking to media, the deputy transport commissioner of RTA, Mr. M. Praveen Rao said that the RTA's revenue was one of the important sources of income to the state government. They almost succeeded in reaching the target as they earned nearly Rs 87 crore from all types of efforts they made so far in the district. However, Mr. Praveen Rao appealed to the owners of the seized vehicles to pay the penalties as early as possible to avoid further high penalty and other charges.
