Kakinada, July 8th: The East Godavari welfare department has distributed post metric scholarship and fee reimbursement to the tune of Rs 47 crore in the district pertaining to academic year of 2008-09. Of this total, Rs 18.92 crore is for scholarship and Rs 27.17 crore is for fee reimbursement. While scholarships were paid through the online process directly into the account of the student, fee reimbursement was made through the concerned colleges.
The district BC welfare officer, Mr. S.K Annapurna said that with this, all BC students in post metric classes were covered in the district for the previous year academic year. She also said that 200 students were selected for admission into intermediate courses in various colleges under the Reliance Dhirubhai Ambani Protsaham scheme. With this the total number of student under the scheme has risen to 650 in the district.
She said the district administration will pay Rs 25,000 per year to each of these students towards education fee, hostel accommodation including Eamcet coaching. Funds to this scheme to the tune of Rs 1 crore every year is being provided by Reliance Industries. The BC welfare department is the nodal agency for effective implementation of the scheme in the district.
