A sum of Rs. 3,451 Crores would be released to Kakinada soon to develop basic infrastructure in the slums including construction of permanent houses, laying of roads and drains and providing electricity under Rajiv Awas Yojna. For this, Total 26 cities from the State selected by the Central government under the scheme and they have identified 101 notified slums here. Under the scheme, the houses would be registered only in the name of women, the beneficiaries would not have a right to sell the property, and main goal of the scheme is to avoid slum areas from the state at the time of 2014.
