Vijayawada, Oct 13th: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Konijeti Rosaiah on Monday said the state government would extend all help to the people affected by the floods in the city. Interacting with flood victims at Ibrahimpatnam during his two-day tour to Krishna District, he said the torrential rains recently had marooned low-lying areas with flood water causing untold misery to the people. He said that the state government will take all necessary steps to rehabilitate the flood victims. He said UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh came to the state to see the flood fury in the four affected districts.
Ms Gandhi and Dr Singh assured all help to the state government during their visits, Mr Rosaiah told the victims and said the Centre and the state government would provide relief to the affected in this hour of crisis. Ruling out giving full compensation for those who lost everything in the floods, the Chief Minister appealed to the people living in low-lying areas to move from there and shift to the elevated areas. He said for this purpose, the state government would acquire 14 acres of land for construction of houses. Mr Rosaiah also visited flood affected Geethanagar in Krishnalanka area here where he distributed relief material to flood victims arranged by the Red Cross Society.
