Roja likely to join Congress

Hyderabad, Aug 30th: Telugu Mahila president and actor Roja met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday and conveyed her intention to join Congress. Ms Roja is likely to join Congress formally during the Chief Minister's visit to Chittoor district next month. For the record, Ms Roja said she met the Chief Minister to thank him for getting Rs 6,000 crore BHEL-NTPC project for her native Chittoor district.

Ms Roja, who is the head of the Telugu Desam Party's women wing, had lost on Roads and Buildings Minister Galla Aruna from Chandragiri constituency in May 2009 general elections. She was brought into the Telugu Desam Party on the eve of the 2004 general elections and was defeated by former Technical Education Minister R Chenga Reddy from Nagiri constituency. She alleged that the party was responsible for her two electoral defeats. “How can I continue in a party where I have no recognition”, she asked. Mr. Naidu did not react to the development.
