Kakinada, Oct 28th: People’s fears that the government has resumed works of the Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) appears to be correct. PCPIR authorities are reportedly denying the allegations. Officials of the roads and building department in the district said that they had sent proposals of widening some roads in the district under the PCPIR to government. As per the proposal, R and B officials estimated Rs 150 crore for widening of the roads between Annavaram, Danavaipeta, Vakalapudi and Edatam.

So it is clearly indicated that the PCPIR project to be developed between Visakhapatnam and Kakinada is gaining momentum with the feasibility of various coastal roads. Other PCPIR roads which are going to be upgraded are road that links the seaports at Kakinada in East Godavari and Gangavaram in Visakhapatnam district over a distance of 138 km, state highways, which include 39 (Visakhapatnam-Anantagiri-Araku), 40 (Kakinada-Rajahmundry), 97 (Yelamanchili-Gajuwaka), and national highways 214 and 214A.There will also be expansion of the ADB road between the Kakinada port and NH5 into four lanes and developing the Kakinada bypass road.

The PCPIR project also includes upgrading Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry airports, Visakhapatnam port and Kakinada deep water port. Up gradation works of Visakhapatnam airport is almost completed and former chief minister YSR inaugurated it as an international airport a few months ago. Revenue officials of East Godavari district are busy surveying lands for the expansion of the Rajahmundry airport.
