District Collector, Mr. Ravi Chandra said movement of vehicles in the wrong route was being reported frequently from Jaggampeta-Kattipudi, Kadiyam-Ravulapalem and Kadiyam-Rajanagaram sections. Addressing the road safety committee meeting here on Wednesday, he asked the police to register cases against them and charge a fine to the tune of Rs. 1,000 per light vehicle and Rs. 2,000 per heavy vehicle. Mr. Ravi Chandra said that in the event of repetition of the same violation, the driver is liable for an imprisonment of three months. He advised the police to focus on installing closed circuit cameras at important traffic junctions to record the violations and steps must be taken to install caution boards and streetlights along the highways. On the movement of tractors on the highways causing damage to the roads, the Collector asked the officials to charge fine on the tractor drivers concerned. He asked the municipal Commissioner to ensure the garbage should not be dumped on the road. He asked the officials of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation to conduct counseling to their drivers so that they would not cause traffic complaints by stopping the buses in the middle of the road.
