Kakinada, April 6^th: To avoid the scarcity of drinking water due to closure of irrigation canals in summer, East Godavari district collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwevedi ordered the concerned officers to initiate effective measures for the water supplies. In a review meeting organized by him at district collectorate court hall on Monday, collector reviewed over the alternate steps to be taken to avoid the scarcity. Officials belonging to irrigation, Panchayat Raj, Municipal and rural water supply department attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion collector revealed that the irrigation canals will be closed for a month from May 1 to June 1 for repair and maintenance purposes. He directed the officers to make arrangements for filling the water canals to meet the demands of water supply. He also directed to stop pumping of water from irrigation canals as the second rabi crop season has come to an end. He said that the authorities have received complaints against the scarcity of water in 130 habitations and ordered officers to take steps to avoid the scarcity by using the 12^th financial funds.
