Hyderabad, Sep 23rd: The Andhra Pradesh government today asked the Centre to release Rs 9,747.42 crore for ground relief works across 981 mandals in the state and provide succor to the people. Despite the late surge in the South-West monsoon, the government admitted that 11.17 lakh hectares of cropped area has been affected, about 36 lakh hectares remained unsown till March 15 this year, taking the overall damage to the kharif crop to Rs 3,077.66 crore. Chief Minister K Rosaiah had written to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for early sanction of funds.
In a memorandum to the Centre, the State Government had sought input subsidy of Rs 391 crore for agriculture and Rs 86.49 crore for horticulture besides 75 per cent subsidy on seed for raising fodder additionally in one lakh hectares. State Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao told here that a contingency plan has been prepared by all the Departments and the state government was taking ''all'' necessary steps to mitigate the suffering of the people.
