Veeravasaram, May 30th: A rare collection of silver and bronze coins and gold articles belonging to the period between 1835 and 1908 were found at Seetarama Swamy temple here on Saturday. As the existing Dhwaja Sthambham was in a dilapidated condition, the temple authorities wanted to replace it with new one. As a part of this they demolished the old to replace with the new one. The coins were noticed when a 8 feet deep pit was dug for the purpose.

The collection includes sixteen silver coins, 111 bronze coins, several pure gold articles and a bronze inscription. The temple executive officer, Mr. Ch. Venkateswara Rao and the temple chairman, Mr. A. Venkata Nagabhushana Sarma recovered all the coins and engaged the workers in cleaning them. The coins were found to be shining even after being buried in the mud for several years. The EO said that they were going to put back the coins in the original place where they were found based on the suggestion from the pundits.
