Rajahmundry, April 28th: The health authorities have come up with rapid diagnostics kits for detecting malaria. Unlike the currently existing practice in which the blood samples will be collected and sent for analysis to the laboratory taking several days for results, the new kits will take about 15 minutes to show the result. The latest method will be great advantage in treating the malaria affected patients without delay. In case a patient test shows positive for malaria, the medication can be started immediately so as to avoid the spread of the disease. A new drug also came into use for curing the decease.

The authorities are planning to train medical officers at primary health centers in selected districts from May 6 to 7 on the usage of these rapid diagnostic kits to detect malaria positive cases and also on providing a new drug regimen for positive cases. To avoid the chances of false positivity, the blood samples will be sent for conventional analysis also. The new strategy was implemented at a village in Yellavaram a few days ago.
