Quality education to the state : CM

Hyderabad, Aug 30th: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said the Government would provide quality education by allocating adequate funds in the budget and increasing the educational institutions, including medical and engineering colleges in the State.

In a statement here, the Chief Minister claimed that the state occupies number one position in the country after allocation of Rs 11,000 crore for educational sector by the Government this year, as against Rs 4,468 crore sanctioned during TDP regime in 2003-04.

Dr Reddy said the Government had also established 18 new universities, increased government colleges to 6000 from 3000 during 2003-04 and started providing free education to 33 lakh students with a new perspective plan of Rs 2,333 crore. He said the State Government had allocated Rs 500 crore for Rajiv IIIT in the State. The State had achieved a gross enrolment of 14 per cent as against national figure of 11.6 per cent, he added.
