Kakinada, Jan 3rd: The first round of pulse polio immunization program for this year 2010 for children aged between zero to five will be held on January 10 in East Godavari district. Over 3,250 booths will be set up for this purpose and 101 mobile teams will also be arranged to ensure maximum coverage. Over 5,79,079 children are expected to be immunized with oral polio vaccine during this program, including the new born children. The district medical and health department has arranged 7.75 lakh doses of the vaccine. The vaccination will begin from 7 am and go till 6pm. House to house visits will be taken up from January 11 to January 13.
Reviewing the arrangements of the program with the task force team at the
collectorate here on Sunday, the collector said that the virus of the disease is still spreading in countries like India, Pakisthan and Afghanistan. A total of 68 cases were reported in the country last year including one from the state. He instructed all the officials concerned to ensure that the vaccination is covered in almost all villages. He appealed to the public to supports government's initiative to eradicate the polio in the country. Polio booths will also be arranged at railway stations and bus stations, he added.
