Hyderabad, June 30th: The Praja Rajyam Party has requested the Election Commission to allocate the rising sun as the new symbol for the party. Majority of the party members are opting for the new symbol and are not willing to contest the forthcoming elections with the unlucky rail engine symbol. If the rising sun is not allotted on technical grounds the party would opt for ‘Umbrella’ symbol. The rising sun symbol is already allotted to the DMK, in Tamilnadu. The PR is hopeful of getting the symbol since the PR and the DMK contest in different states.

According to the sources, the election commission has power to allocate the same symbol to two different regional parties in different states. The Cycle is a symbol for both TDP in Andhra Pradesh and the Samajwadi party in Uttar Pradesh. The PRP president, Mr. Chiranjeevi said that they want to contest the elections with a new symbol and they are hoping that their request will be accepted by the election commission.

The PR party has decided to launch an agitation against co-operative farming and construction of Babli project in Maharashtra. The party asked the prime minister to intervene over the issue and protect the interests of the AP. It also extended is moral support to the agitation of the TDP MLA, Mr. Rama Rao, who is seeking withdrawal of CID inquiry on alleged charges of rape and murder of a college student.
