Proposal for port expansion

Kakinada, Mar 28th: Kakinada Sea Ports Limited (KSPL) is in a proposal to expand the deep water port from the existing 4 berths to 5, 6 and 7 berths. A public hearing on the proposal has the organized at the port commissioners office her on Sunday. The district revenue officer, Mr. S Venkata Rao presided over the program and appealed the people to express their opinion on the proposal. Speaking in response to this the people representatives, fisher flock, and others showed interest on the proposal, but asked to take necessary precautions in maintaining the same.

Welcoming the project, Vakalapudi village Sarpanch, Mr. G. Srinivas Rao appealed to the KSPL management to ensure that all fisher flock was given satisfactory rehabilitation and other packages without delay. Chief executive officer of KSPL, Mr. Y.S Prasad said that at present the port was handling a million tones of cargo with four berths. For the expansion of the existing to 5, 6 and 7 berths it would take 3 years with an estimated cost of Rs 200 crores.
