Hyderabad, July 8th: Due to scanty rainfall and decrease in the production this year, the prices of the pulses in the state has raised drastically. While a kilogram of red gram costs as much as Rs 85 in the open market, green gram is sold for Rs 62 a kg and black gram for Rs 56 a kg. Even the humble Bengal gram sells for Rs 32 a kg. Traders said that the prices of red gram may climb to Rs 100 a kg in the future due to fall in production. The traders are blaming the government policies for the steep rise in prices.
As per the rules, a trader or miller cannot stock more than 2,000 quintals of pulses. The Hyderabad Dal Mills and Merchant Association home secretary, Mr. Rajendra Kintee sought implementation of the “free Zone” policy. A free zone policy is one which will allow the merchants to keep sufficient stocks and that in turn helps prices stabilized. However the civil supplies department refuses to buy the argument.
