Hyderabad, Oct 30th: Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu on Oct 30 urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Konijeti Rosaiah to direct the authorities to take preventive measures on a large scale to curb the spread of dengue. In a letter to the Chief Minister, a copy of which was made avail to the media, Mr Naidu said there were large number of deaths due to dengue fever in different parts of the state following the spread of spread of the disease.

Demanding the state government to provide an ex gratia payment of Rs five lakh to the people who died of dengue fevers, the TDP chief said the government should reimburse the hospitalization expenditure incurred by the patients. He urged the government to include dengue disease in Aarogyasri scheme without further delay to provide support to the needy that were in large numbers.

The situation warrants an immediate response and intervention from the state government, he said adding the recent cabinet decision not to include dengue fever in Aarogyasri was really 'shocking.' ''As you are aware that blood platelet separating machines are not available in any of the teaching hospitals and district hospitals except at Warangal, which was yet to get its license. In this backdrop, the decision to open separate wards in government hospitals will not serve any purpose,'' Mr Naidu, in his letter said.
