Prepare for possible floods

Kakinada, Oct 4th: East Godavari district collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwevedi has started directing his staff to monitor flood situation in 60 mandals and strictly instructed them not to go on leave. It is the time for all officials concerned in the district to be vigilant to face any kind of alarming situation from unexpected floods in the river Godavari, as heavy rains are lashing the river catchments areas in neighboring states.

Mr. Dwivedi said there was a likelihood of heavy rains in the next two days. Godavari River could swell beyond control if rains continued in Maharashtra. Control rooms have to be set up in all 60 mandals to monitor the situation. The Revenue and Police Departments have to be alert in the Agency areas where people could risk their lives by venturing into the woods and crossing rivulets and streams. The water level at Dowleswaram was at present below the first danger mark of 11.75 feet. The river could receive heavy inflows at any moment due to heavy rains.
