Union Minister of State for Defence M.M.Pallam Raju said that Central and State governments are committed to people's welfare, which is the objective of Praja Patham program. NREGS and several other welfare schemes are being implemented to help the poor. Speaking at the Praja Patham re-dedication program at Ambedkar Bhavan here on Saturday, Mr. Pallam Raju said Arogyasri scheme was of tremendous use to the poor who did not have affordable means for health care. Pensions were being given to the eligible and employment is provided under the NREGS. A huge amount of funds were sanctioned under various schemes. Steps were being taken to prevent misuse of funds. The Right to Education Act would go a long a way in improving literacy rate among children, which was crucial for the country's future development. Another similar legislation introduced to relieve from the difficult situations of the poor was the Right to Food Bill. Various other development and welfare schemes are on the way in the years ahead he added. Later, Mr. Pallam Raju distributed units under welfare schemes of ten departments worth Rs. 27.81 Cr for 22,480 beneficiaries.
