In the first phase of Pulse Polio Immunization Program, polio drops were administered to 5.7 Lakh children below the age of five years in East Godavari District here on Sunday. Total 3,250 booths were opened in various parts of the District for this program. In addition, medical teams would visit door-to-door on Monday and Tuesday to assure that the drops were administered to all the children. District Collector, Mr. M. Ravi Chandra called upon the people to join hands to eradicate polio completely. Participating in the inaugural program here, Collector said that no cases of polio were registered in the District between the year 2000 and 2006, but three cases were reported in the year 2007. One case of polio was registered at Yetimoga in 2008 and since then there was no fresh registration of polio cases in the District, he explained. Joint Collector Mr. K. Sasidhar, District Medical and Health Officer Mr. Vijay Kumar, Additional Joint Collector Mr. B.Ramarao, District Immunization Officer Dr.Murali Krishna, Kakinada Municipal Commissioner Mr. GSN Murthy, Health Officer Dr. K. Ratna Uma, Principal of Rangaraya Medical College Dr. Vikram Kumar and others participated in this program.
