Kakinada, Jan 10th: The deputy speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Nadendla Manohar, inaugurated the first round of Pulse Polio Immunization program for children aged between zero to five, at the Municipal Primary School at Tarakaramnagar here on Sunday. On the occasion he appealed the public to support the governments initiative to eradicate the polio in the country.
Meanwhile the east godavari district collector, Mr.Gopala Krishna Dwevedi said that over 3,250 booths were set up for this purpose and 101 mobile teams were also arranged to ensure maximum coverage. Over 5,79,079 children were expected to be immunized with oral polio vaccine. The district medical and health department has arranged 7.75 lakh doses of the vaccination. House to house visits would be taken up by 3,250 medical staff from Monday to Tuesday, he added.
The district medical and health officer, Mr. D. Vijay Kumar said their staff administered polio drops to all the children at construction sites, markets, temples, churches, public parks etc. Polio booths were also arranged at railway stations and bus stations, he added. Kakinada MLA, Mr. Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy and the Zilla Parishad chairman, Mr. Ch. Venugopala Krishna and others were present.
