The nation wide polio eradication programme. Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (BOPV), was held in East Godavari on Sunday. The Collector, Mr.Gopalakrishna Dwivedi, inaugurated the programme by administering two drops of polio vaccine to a baby at the Yetimoga urban health center this morning. On the occasion, the collector appealed to the parents of all zero-5-years-old babies to come forward voluntarily to participate in the nation-wide programme and join hands with it in eradicating the disease permanently from the country. He further said that over 3,250 booths were set up for this purpose and more than 100 mobile teams were also arranged to ensure maximum coverage.
Over 5.79 lakh Children were expected to be immunized with the new oral polio vaccine which provides immunity against various types of virulent viruses in the district. The district medical and health department arranged 7.30 lakh doses of the vaccination for this (BOPV).
