Police University soon in state

Rajahmundry, Nov 3rd: For the first time in country, a police university will be set up offering several post-graduate courses under the aegis of AP Police Academy. The additional director general of police and APPA director, Dr C.N Gopinath Reddy, said here on Tuesday that PG courses like police management would be started in the upcoming university in addition to an undergraduate program on police management. He said that the draft proposal for setting up the university was ready and the proposals would be submitted to the home minister and chief minister for their consent shortly.

The proposed university would be run with the funds from the University Grants Commission and 50 per cent of the seats would be allotted to police personnel and their family members while the remaining 50 per cent would be open for general public. Maintaining that as many as 8,475 personnel were trained at APPA this year, its director, Mr. Gopinath Reddy, said that they were making efforts to increase the academy’s capacity to provide training for 10,000 personnel. He said that police personnel from other countries were also being trained at the academy.
