Plans to develop assigned lands in EG

Kakinada, July 26th: The development of land assigned to the SC, ST beneficiaries in East Godavari has been taken up in a big way. About 2.75 lakh acre land was distributed to beneficiaries in the last four years. The administration notice that majority of these lands were not brought into cultivation due to different reasons including lack of financial support. As part of the development drive and to bring in these lands under cultivation, the services of both Girijan Development Corporation and NREGS East Godavari unit are being utilized.

The development in Phase II program has been initiated in 24 mandals in both upland and Agency areas in the district. Of this total, 17 mandals falls under upland areas and seven in Agency areas. The NREGS, ITDA, forest department, AP micro irrigation, horticulture, social forestry wing in forest department, ground water management, AP Transco and agriculture departments will help development of these lands.

After the assessment of availability of ground water resources, the AP Transco will provide power connection to bore wells. While taking up cultivation the mandal authorities help the beneficiaries in deciding financially viable crops. The East Godavari collector, Mr Gopalkrishna Dwivedi said that there is no storage of funds. He also said that efforts are being made to bring 50 percent of these lands into utilization by the end of October.
