Kakinada, June 4^th: The rapid increase in power consumption has prompted authorities to go in for power saving in a systematic way. This is being taken up in a big way in East Godavari under power conservation. The NEDCAP (Non-conventional Energy Development Corporation of AP), East Godavari unit, was entrusted with effective implementation in all 290 welfare hostels (SC. ST and BC hostels) in addition to select villages in the district. On effective implementation of power consumption, it is likely to come down by 50 per cent of present use.

Four welfare hostels in Kakinada city and Gokavaram in Parthipadu mandal were selected for implementation as a pilot project in the district. The hostels are provided with energy efficient lamps (EEF) in the place of existing tube lights and existing incandescent bulbs will be replaced by compact fluorescent lamps (CFL). Mr. Satyanarayana the NEDCAP district executive engineer said that the NEDCAP, also looks after the energy conservation in the state, will bear the expenditure. The plan in the remaining hostels and in the other selected villages will be implemented in the second and subsequent phases, and in the process the power consumption will come down to 50 per cent of the present use.
