Hyderabad, Sep 6th: About 7,484 seats in the Eamcet convener quota remained vacant after the first phase of the web-based counseling. The seat allotments were released on Sunday and were posted on the website www.apeamcet.nic.in. The officials sent SMS alerts to students who provided their mobile numbers in the registration forms, informing them about the college and branch of engineering course for which they were allotted seats. Students have to report to their colleges by Sep 11.

Contrary to expectations that a large of seats would remain vacant with the sharp rise in the number of colleges this year, 94.78 per cent of the seats were filled. This came as a surprise to the officials who are now confident of filling up of remaining vacant seats as well during the second phase of counseling slated for September 13. They attribute the demand to the “total fee reimbursement scheme” implemented by the state government from last year for BC, SC, ST, PH and minority students. This year it had been extended to students from economically backward classes too.
