Panel to review water supply

Kakinada, Jan 24th: The East Godavari district collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwevedi said that a special committee with the joint collector, Mr. Kona Sasidhar as head would be constituted for studying the progress of supplying water from Yeluru reservoir to the selected farm lands for paddy crop in Rabi season. A review meeting was organized on the process with the concerned heads at the collectorate here on Sunday. Addressing the meeting collector said that due to the shortage of water in water sources, it was decided to supply the available water to some areas in selected villages. The panel would visit the areas on Monday and prepare special action plan, he added.

He regretted that till now only 30 percent of the paddy transplantation was completed in rabi under Yeluru reservoir limits. Meanwhile the MLAs from various constituencies said that many farmers in their constituencies were facing several problems with the supply of water from the reservoir, They suggested the collector to take immediate steps on illegal lifting of water from the canals of the reservoir, canal leakages, and take steps to enhance the water supply from 200 cusecs to 350 cusecs. Joint Collector, Mr. Kona Sasidhar, the additional joint collector, Mr. B. Rama Rao, the agriculture joint director, Mr. T. Nandaiah and the irrigation SE, Mr. B. Pratap Babu, were present.
