Kakinada, Dec 7th: An expert committee of the National Alliance of People's Movements (NAPM) conducted a public audit on Monday on the proposed Kakinada special economic zone (K-SEZ) with villagers of Tondangi and U. Kottapalli mandals of East Godavari, at Vakadaripeta village of Tondangi mandal. The committee comprising environmentalists, intellectuals and professors of various state and central universities in the country came to the village, nearly 40 km from Kakinada city, and held the audit as part of their efforts to intensify the stir against various SEZs in the country.

Interacting with the NAPM panel, the villagers expressed their problem saying that their valuable lands were occupied by the government under the name of SEZ. A people's representative and advocate of Mulapeta village, Mr. Ch. Suryanarayana Murthy said that the Central and the state government were saying that the SEZ were proposed for uplifting poor people and developing the industrial sector, but selling the lands to private parties at a cheap price. He said that the government had started sending notices to peoples of 16 villages of U. Kottapalli and Tondangi mandals.
