The First Phase of Panchayat Elections concluded in the district, here on Tuesday. A total 79.75% of polling percentage was recorded in the first phase polls for entire 297 panchayats under Rampachodavaram & Rajahmundry divisions in the district. Out of which, it is recorded as 85.23% for Rajahmundry division and 74.28% for Rampachodavaram division. Sources said, In some areas, voters experienced discomfort to go to the polling stations due to the rains. Voters waited in long queue though some polling stations were located in water-logged areas, some villages engaged boats to reach polling stations. The polling was ended by 1.00PM in all the panchayats. The counting of votes of Ward Memberes started at 2.00PM and after completing it the voters for the posts of Sarpanch are counted. According to the results, YSRCP is in a leading position. YSRCP won in 93 gram panchayats, TDP won in 81, Congress won 58 leaving 21 panchayats for others. These are the results according to the official notice, released by Tuesday night at around 11.30PM. Still the votes counting process is conducting by the officials for some more panchayats in the district.
