Kakinada, Mar 17th: Returning officer of Amalapuram constituency and joint collector of East Godavari district, Mr. Kona Sasidhar ordered the closure of all belt shops in the Assembly segments under the constituency. To look over the arrangements of the polls, JC visited several villages in the constituency on Tuesday. During his visit to Balusutippa village in Katrenikona mandal few of the villagers complained about the functioning of the belt shop in that area. JC responded and ordered to close the belt shop immediately. P. Veerababu, owner of the belt shop was arrested under the PD Act and the stock in the shop worth Rs 40,000 was seized.
He visited another belt shop that was running near the licensed shop in the same mandal. On hearing the news the owner of the shop escaped. JC directed Mummidivaram Constituency special officer, Mr. J.S.S Prasad to seize the shop till the verification was done by the excise officers. Later JC visited MPDO office and reviewed the arrangements of the polls with the police and excise officials. He ordered them to close all the existing belt shops in the Katrenikona mandal. He also ordered them to keep a close watch on all the licensed liquor shops in that area. Amalapuram RDO B. Lavanya Vani and officials of police and excise department accompanied him.
