Hyderabad, Sep 5th: The CBSE English medium syllabus introduced in government high schools by the late CM, Dr. Y.S Raja Shekar Reedy is facing stiff resistance from officials of the school education department. Several district education officers want the CBSE syllabus scrapped, though they are in favor of continuing English as the medium of instruction in the schools. They sent the proposal to the directorate of school education which referred the matter to the government. The government is examining the matter and is yet to take a final decision.

Dr. Reddy had launched the CBSE initiative in 6,200 government schools during the last academic year braving stiff residence from various political parties and teacher unions. The scheme became a boon for parents from under-privileged sections of society who could not afford the fee in private schools that offer CBSE syllabus. Last year, about two lakh children came forward to take CBSE syllabus introduced in Class VI. This year it has been extended to Class VII, adding another two lakh students.
