Hyderabad, July 8th: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has issued notices to 392 B.Ed colleges in the state for violating norms related to infrastructure, faculty and fixed deposit. There are a total of 610 B.Ed colleges in the state and most of them are found to be lacking in basic amenities. According to the norms every college should have own building after three years of functioning. But most of the colleges are operating from rented buildings.
The NCTE warned such colleges that they would be kept under “no admission” for this academic year. About 195 colleges have also not submitted fixed deposits to the tune of 8 lakh, which is given as a security amount to set up a B.Ed college. Some colleges have gone to the extent of using the FDs to claim loans on them. The NCTE usually keeps FDs so students can be compensated in case a college is closed mid-term due to management irregularities. Nearly 40,000 students will lose seats if the NCTE refuses to grant approval to the errant colleges.
Regional director of NCTE said that they have issued notices to these colleges and told them to follow the norms. The authorities also warned to take stringent action if they are found to be violating the guidelines. He said that only those colleges that shift to their own premises will be allowed to take in students. However the representatives of college management associates are reportedly lobbying at the NCTE regional office in Bengaluru to get an approval.
