New Delhi, Jan 5 : Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's meeting with representatives of eight political parties of Andhra Pradesh, to find a solution to the Telangana crisis, on Tuesday has not yielded any positive results. Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TSR), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), Communist Party of India (CPI) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) are the parties that attended the All Party Meeting.
However, the parties have released a joint statement which said the Central government has heard all their views. "We have expressed our views at the meeting and they have been noted by the Central government," the statement said. "It is our earnest appeal that peace, harmony and law and order should be maintained in the state," read the statement signed by representatives of all the parties. "We are waiting for the final response," TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao said after the meeting.
However, according to latest reports, no easy solution seems to be in sight with only TRS, CPI and BJP supporting the formation of the new state while CPI-M and PRP are for a united Andhra Pradesh. MIM is against the formation of a separate Telangana. TDP and the Congress are divided on the issue. The home minister will reportedly convey the views of different political parties to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Earlier in the day Chidambaram urged political parties to show cooperate with the Centre in solving the Telangana issue. "Political parties must help the Centre to find a solution on the Telangana issue," Chidambaram said.
