Kakinada, Oct 18th: The employment office of East Godavari districts is in dire straits as only a few job seekers are interested in registering their names seeking employment, both in the public and private sectors. Most of them feel that they hardly get calls or invitations from the employment office on job opportunities in various government organizations or even for private jobs. According to sources, the demand for an employment registration certificate was high a few years ago. Now it has drastically come down.
Earlier job seekers with qualification from Class X to PG used to get their name registered. And in turn the registered used to get good response from the office, in terms of alerting them to attend interviews. The entire scenario has changed now. Except for a few jobs in government forms like the APSRTC, job seekers find no value of the certificates in seeking employment in private sectors. After finishing their studies, youth are directly approaching private firms where most of them are not asking for employment registration certificates.
The job melas being organized by various private employers is considered one of the reasons for the low preference for the employment registration certificate. According to the official statistics, only 6,053 candidates registered their names at the office here till the end of September 2009. Only few jobs in the government sector was one of the reasons behind the low registration for employment.
