Hyderabad, July 2nd: Following the raise in diesel prices, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is not going to revise its fare. The state transport minister, Mr. Satrucherla Vijayarama Raju who reviewed the current financial situation of RTC, said that there is a need to revise the charges to bear an additional burden of Rs 2 per liter on diesel following the hike. But keeping in view of the passengers they were not going to revise the fare.
It is estimated that the RTC will have to bear an additional burden of Rs 110 crore on 2009-10 with the hike of Rs 2 per liter on diesel. The RTC spends around Rs 1,700 crore on fuel as it consumes 47 crore liters of diesel every year to run its fleet of 20,000 buses in the state. The RTC, which registered Rs 100 crore profit in 2008-09, is striving hard to clear its losses to the tune of Rs 1,100 crore. “It is difficult to run the organization with out revising the fares. We request the government to provide subsidiary to the RTC”, said Mr. Syed Mohammed, director of APSRTC.
