Nilam Effects Huge Loss in District

Nilam Cyclone, a heaviest cyclonic rainfall for last two decades, were experienced by Kakinada, Konaseema and other parts of East Godavari District in the State from last three days. East Godavari district has ravaged by torrential rains which flooded the district on Sunday disturbing roads & rail traffic, due to the wake of Nilam cyclone which crossed Tamilnadu coast a few days ago. According to the sources, after 1990's, experiencing these much of heavy rains in the district are the most devastating. Kakinada, Amalapuram & Tuni areas recorded highest rainfall and Kirlampudi recorded lowest rainfall in the district. All the 58 mandals in the district are recorded above 20mm of rainfall and nearly 500 villages were marooned. The rail track in tuni railway station was inundated and the waters overflowed across the railway tracks disturbing train traffic. Meanwhile, the paddy fields in Konaseema areas are the worst hit, almost the entire crop is lost. Many villages remained in darkness as there was no power till midnight of this Saturday. District Collector, Mrs. Neethu Kumari Prasad visited the rain hit areas in the district here on Sunday. Speaking on this, She stated that nearly two lakh hectares of agriculture and horticulture crops were inundated and there is huge loss for the district. The passengers of various trains faced hardships due to the sudden struct in East Godavari district. Public can contact these numbers for any inconvenience occured due to these cyclonic rains.
        According to this, State Chief Minister Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy is going to visit East Godavari district to conduct areal survey in the district here on Monday. Telugu Desam Party President Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu and YSR Congress Party President Mrs. Y. S. Vijayamma are also going to visit the district today to observe the condition.
