Kakinada, Feb 14th: A total of 19,304 gas connections were sanctioned under the Deepam scheme to the East Godavari by the state government. The officials say that the government now laid new rules and regulations to release the connections with revenue officials. The Panchayats are given task of deciding the eligible beneficiaries to get new gas connections.
It may be mentioned that the government has sanctioned a total of 32,942 gas connections under the scheme for both the 2006-07 and 2007-08 financial year. Of them the government cancelled a total of 17,035 such connections. Recently, it released 19,304 new connections that conform to the new norms. The officials concerned are now preparing a list of the beneficiaries, those who come under Below Poverty Line (BPL), and those who are entitled to get benefits under schemes like Anthyodaya and Anna Yojana.
