Kakinada: The Medical and Health Department is observing the National Filaria Day on November 11. It is taking steps for mass drug administration on that day by distributing Anti-Filaria diethyl carbamazine citrate (DEC) tablets. Nearly 1.38 crore tablets were kept ready to distribute among 49 lakh population in the district, according to the zonal malaria officer, Mr. Phanindra.
All pregnant women, children below two years of age and those suffering from fatal diseases were exempted, he added. Participating at a review meeting on the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) program with health officials here on Wednesday, Mr. Phanindra said that the MDA program was devised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and was being funded by the Center. Children between 2-4 years of age have to take a single tablet after taking food, those between 6-15 years old should take two tablets and those more than 15 years old could take three tablets at a time, he said.
