Recalling the welfare schemes launched by the TDP Government such as ‘Adarana' and release of linkage loans to the members of women self-help groups, President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu criticized the present Government for not implementing any of those welfare schemes. Earlier in the day, Mr. Naidu visited Pagadalapeta and Annamma Ghat areas and unveiled the statues of B.R. Ambedkar and N.T. Rama Rao. Expressing concern over the sorry state of affairs at fishermen villages along the coast here on Friday, Mr. Naidu announced that the party would continue to give back up to the fishermen for the cause of their welfare and development. Addressing the fishermen at a meeting organized at Suryakala Mandiram here after visiting a few villages on the city outskirts Mr. Naidu said “Instead, the Government is planning to propagate Marine Fishing Regulation Act, prohibiting the fishermen from venturing into the sea for fishing beyond 22 km from the coast. The Act affects the livelihood of the fishermen severely on one hand and will help the multinational companies on the other”. Criticizing the policies of the former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as “anti-farmer and anti-fishermen,” Mr. Naidu said that those policies benefited only a few industries in the State. He stressed that they are not against industries. At the same time, welfare of the poor is more important. This is the reason, we have encouraged setting up of industries at Samalkot, but not on the seacoast, he added.
