Rajahmundry, July 3rd: Noted classical singer, Padma Vibhushan, Dr. Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna was given a warm welcome by the municipal corporation here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, the 79 year old classical singer called it a memorable experience for getting facilitated by citizens in the town located only a few kilometers away from home village, Sankaraguptam of Razole mandal in East Godavari district.

 

The music doyen announced setting up a branch of the Balamurali Trust in the town to organize workshops to help the younger generation learn the importance of classical music and train them to become music exponents. He also accepted a proposal for naming a place or a street in the town after him as a mark of gratitude to his service to classical music.

 

Earlier, the mayor, Ms. A Veera Raghavamma appreciating the great skills of the music doyen, mooted a proposal to name any place or street in the town after him. The MLC, Mr. Kandula Durgesh and the municipal commissioner, Dr. V. Rajendra Prasad spoke on the occasion. A large number of corporators and people attended the program to have a glimpse at the singer.
