A 60-year-old woman Bayyana Laskhmi died after consuming pesticide on the premises of the district Collectorate here on Monday. The condition of her 35-year-old son Srinivas, who also consumed pesticide, is said to be critical. Tension prevailed on Collectorate premises when Lakshmi and Srinivas collapsed while standing in a queue to submit memoranda to the Joint Collector Mr. K. Sasidhar as part of the weekly grievance cell program. Police constables on duty rushed them to the Government General Hospital as both of them were found to have consumed pesticide, where the doctors declared Lakshmi dead. The condition of Srinivas, who is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit, is said to be critical. According to the town police, Srinivas is leading a livelihood by running a grocery shop in Pithapuram. He owned a house site near Church Centre, where he started constructing a house recently. Three days ago, neighbours of the site demolished a portion of the house that was under construction, following a quarrel with Srinivas over the issue of boundary. Srinivas lodged a complaint at police station who advised him to approach the court. Along with his mother Lakshmi, Srinivas visited the Collector's office in the morning to bring the issue to the notice of the higher officials during the grievance cell program. In the GGH, the police found a death declaration in the demonstration of Srinivas, in which he stated that the negligent attitude of the police hurt him a lot and forced him to end his life.
