The District Collector Mrs. Neetu Kumari Prasad had distributed Mobile phone sets to fishermen from East & West Godavari districts, here on Tuesday. These mobile phones having an application which provides information of the density of their fish catch while they went for fishing. This latest technology mobile application has been developed by the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation to locate potential fishing zones using GPS system. Speaking on this, the Collector has explained the importance of this application to the fishermen. The mobile phones would enable detection of potential fishing zones and provide information in Telugu, Tamil and English on various welfare schemes benefitting of fishermen, she added. Mrs. Neetu Kumari Prasad lauded the services rendered by the foundation in agriculture and extension fields and expressed happiness over its endeavour in providing crucial information to fishermen.
