Hyderabad, Oct 20th: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Tuesday said that his Government is considering the demand for creation of a separate Ministry for the promotion of Telugu language. He gave assurance to media persons who felt that Telugu remained neglected even after the grant of ''classical language'' status by the Centre following a court case.
At a meet-the-press programme organized by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists here, the Chief Minister said that he had sought the intervention of Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni for early adjudication of the case by the Supreme Court and vacation of the stay granted by the Madras High Court on a petition challenging the classical language status accorded to Telugu. An advocate had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), questioning the legality of the constitution of the committee that had recommended the classical language status to Kannada and Telugu languages.
