Minister Konda Surekha resigns

Hyderabad, Oct 29th: Defying the Congress High Command's directive to work under Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah, Women Development and Child Welfare Minister Konda Surekha, a vociferous campaigner for making Kadapa Congress MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy as Chief Minister, on Oct 29 resigned from the State Cabinet. After submitting her resignation letter directly to Governor N D Tiwari, she told that she was unable to continue in the Cabinet after the death of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. She expressed her anguish that the CLP meeting was not held even after two months to pay homage to Rajasekhar Reddy.

Surekha made an indirect attack on former central government minister Renuka Choudhary for trying to defame Jaganmohan Reddy. The resignation has come at a time when the party central leadership is busy preparing the ground for convening the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) to formally elect Mr Rosaiah as its leader and appoint a senior MLA from the State Assembly as Leader of the Lower House as the present Chief Minister is a member of the State Legislative Council.
