Micro irrigation gets top priority

Kakinada, Aug 6th: With increased priority for water conservation and water resources, micro irrigation system gets top priority in East Godavari district. The system which was earlier confirmed to 46 small and minor lift irrigation schemes covering 10 to 100 acres in now being extended to major lift irrigation schemes like Pushkara in the district. The lift irrigation scheme was brought into use to irrigate 1.80 lakh acres in the upland areas in East Godavari.

In addition, 90 per cent subsidiary to farmers and 100 percent subsidiary to SC and ST farming sections on costs of micro irrigation equipment and water supply is also expected to benefit farmers immensely, in addition to grater area coverage under this system. In the present season, a target of 3,000 hectares was given for coverage under micro irrigation under which both sprinkler and drip irrigation systems will be installed. The AP Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP), the nodal agency, will take care of installation of necessary equipment and for execution.
