Mela for service tax registration

Rajahmundry, Aug 27th: The office of Central excise deputy commissioner will hold a mela for registration and de-registration of service tax from September 2 to 4. In a press release here on Thursday, the central excise deputy commissioner stated that the Center is planning to levy service tax on certain services from September 1 onwards. The services include the transport of goods through rail including government rail, transport of coastal goods and goods transport through inland water, legal consultancy services and cosmetic and plastic surgery services.

The Center also modified some services from September 1 including business auxiliary services, information technology services, works contract services and stock broker services. The providers of the above mentioned services were asked to go for service tax registration to pay the service tax at the mela. However the service providers who had already registered but their annual turnover was not more than Rs 10 lakh, they could de-register as they need not to pay service tax.
